Privacy Policy

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy describes how Ryan Evans ("I", "me", or "my") collects, uses, and protects information when you visit https://ryanevansdev.com. I collect only what is necessary to operate the Site and respond to inquiries.

2. Information I Collect

Contact form submissions. When you submit the contact form, I collect your name, email address, subject, and message. To understand which marketing brings in inquiries, the submission also records how your visit began: the campaign tags on the link you arrived from (for example utm_source=linkedin), the first page you landed on, the bare hostname of the referring site, and the page the form was sent from. None of this is sold or shared with third parties for marketing purposes.

First-party analytics. I keep a simple, privacy-preserving count of how the Site is used, stored on my own server as aggregate daily totals. When you load a page, the Site sends the page path. On the first page of a visit it also sends the bare hostname of the site that referred you (for example google.com), any campaign tags in the URL, and the landing page path. When you tap the phone number, an email link, a contact button, or the review link, or send the contact form, the Site counts that action together with the visit's source. This uses no cookies, sets no identifier, and stores no IP address, full URL, or any information that could identify you. The visit's source is held in your browser's session storage only until you close the tab. Because it is fully anonymous and aggregate, it operates independently of the cookie consent banner.

Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics. With your consent, the Site loads Google Tag Manager, which in turn loads Google Analytics 4 (GA4) under Consent Mode v2. GA4 receives page views and the interaction events described above (clicks on the phone number, email and contact links, contact form submissions, scroll depth, and which project or post was viewed), each with the page path and title. Form contents are never sent. GA4 may also collect anonymized data including time on site, browser type, device type, and general geographic region. This data is aggregated and cannot identify you personally. Advertising signals (ad_storage, ad_user_data, ad_personalization) are always denied. Nothing from Google loads, and no analytics cookies are set, until you accept the cookie banner.

Browser storage. The Site uses your browser's local storage, not a cookie, to remember your consent choice, and session storage to remember the visit's source as described above. No tracking or advertising cookies are set without your explicit consent.

Server logs. My hosting provider (Railway) may automatically log standard server data including IP addresses, request timestamps, and referring URLs for security and infrastructure purposes.

3. How I Use Your Information

Information collected through this Site is used to:

  • Respond to project inquiries submitted via the contact form

  • Understand how visitors navigate the Site to improve content and usability

  • Measure which platforms, campaigns, and pages bring visitors and inquiries, so I can spend marketing effort where it works

  • Maintain the security and performance of the Site

I do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling.

4. Third-Party Services

Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics 4. When analytics consent is granted, Google Tag Manager loads and data is transmitted to Google's servers. The only tags in the container are Google Analytics 4 tags. Google's privacy policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy.

Railway. The Site and its API are hosted on Railway. This provider may process request metadata per its own privacy policy. The first-party analytics and contact form submissions described above are stored in my own database on this infrastructure and are not shared with any third party.

No advertising networks, data brokers, or social media tracking pixels are used on this Site. If that changes, this policy and the cookie banner will be updated first.

5. Data Retention

Contact form submissions, including the visit-source details recorded with them, are retained only as long as necessary to complete the communication and any resulting engagement. GA4 analytics data is retained per Google's standard retention settings (up to 14 months). First-party analytics are stored only as anonymous, aggregate daily counts with no personal data, and may be retained indefinitely for historical trend reporting.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Request access to the personal data I hold about you

  • Request correction or deletion of your personal data

  • Withdraw consent for analytics at any time using "Cookie settings" in the footer, which re-opens the cookie banner

  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

7. Children's Privacy

This Site is not directed at children under 13. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted information through this Site, please contact me so I can delete it.

8. Changes to This Policy

I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the Site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
